We are working on opening the first ever fully equipped and fully staffed STEM education center in Liberia, West Africa. This facility will primarily serve students and teachers from schools serving communities living below the poverty line in Liberia. The service will be entirely free with the students being shuttled back and forth from their respective schools to the STEM center. 100% of the funding will be invested in the center, including maintenance, STEM equipment and staffing
After more than 13 years of a devastating civil war, the Liberian educational system is still struggling to emerge. For a country whose population is a little over 4 million people and with about 45% under the age of 15, the future of the country is at stake. The government is striving to resuscitate the educational system, however it alone cannot be left to shoulder this task given the current socioeconomic challenges and urgency. A collaborative and goodwill partnership is needed.
Education and career prospects in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) provide the inherent potential to empower the Liberian youth who have gone through much in their short life time. Institute of Basic Technology will work closely with the local high schools to help build and support their STEM programs and hopefully set the younger generation on the path toward a prosperous socioeconomic future.
Improved graduation rate over time (estimating two years from time each child starts the program) Empower and train teaching staff Breed more entrepreneurs and/or scholars along the STEM academic path Make basic education free and affordable
