The Stand With Us fund invests in organisations that support women and girls whose lives have been devastated by male violence. The fund began as part of a movement, led by Reclaim These Streets, that inspired thousands of people to speak out against male violence in the wake of the appalling kidnap and murder of Sarah Everard by a serving police officer. Stand with Us channels their collective anger and grief into a fund to benefit all women and girls who are victims and survivors.
Thanks to your generous support, since launching the fund, we have distributed over £575,000 to 25 organisations across the UK and strengthened the support available to around 13,500 women and girls.
How your funding helped
Among the organisations that received grants were the London-based Sophie Hayes Foundation, which supports women survivors of human trafficking and modern slavery, Amina, The Muslim Women’s Resource Centre, which provides support and advocacy to address the key issues and needs of racially minoritised women and Muslim women in Scotland, and Integrate UK, a Bristol based charity dedicated to empowering women and girls from marginalised backgrounds to become positive role models, reduce stigma and challenge VAWG and racial discrimination.
Red Godfrey Sagoo, CEO, Sophie Hayes Foundation in London comments:
“Sophie Hayes Foundation has undergone a significant period of growth over the past 3 years. Growth driven by the need to support more women survivors of human trafficking by offering independence through employability skills and access to education. However, this dramatic growth has led to a critical need for new staff training, namely, leadership and management training. With additional support for the first two survivors employed to manage CREW Survivor Network (Creative Resilient Empowered Women). Rosa’s funding enables the Foundation to develop its leadership and CREW staff, empowering each to lead with confidence.”
There is still more to do
We’re really proud of the impact of the Stand With Us fund and hearing from organisations like Sophie Hayes Foundation is so inspiring but sadly, there is still more to do.
Harassment, intimidation and violence towards women is rising in the UK. Last year, two women were killed every week at the hands of men (The Femicide Census). All women and girls are exposed to this threat. The risk of violence is everywhere - on the streets, online, at schools and universities, in sport, at work and at home.
But we can do something about it and you can be a part of the solution. Thanks to the money raised from the first round of funding, we have proven that when we unite and get active, we can create meaningful and lasting change for women and girls across the UK who are experiencing violence, intimidation and harassment.
The Stand With Us fund supports the many organisations run by women, for women, who stand up and take action every single day to support women and girls whose lives are devastated by male violence.
This is not an issue that can be solved overnight, but you can make a real difference. Your support can make women feel safer, feel supported, and help them to recover from male violence and rebuild their lives.
This is why Rosa will be opening the Stand With Us fund for applications again in 2024. We aim to award £715k to support 25 organisations to be in a stronger position to survive, thrive and grow.
By giving to the Stand With Us Fund, you'll be part of a powerful legacy of a movement inspired by tragic loss. It may seem like a small gesture, but the money you donate and raise will make a big difference to the organisations delivering life-changing and life-saving work on the frontline. This year, we aim to raise another £500,000 to distribute to women’s and girls’ organisations across the UK
Thank you for making our work possible. We couldn’t do it without you.
