Standing with Gevara: Your Support Can Help Care

By Sekamana Archimede | Head of Partnership, Strategy & Impact

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Thank you for supporting Dufatanye Organization’s appeal for Gevara, a child from Nyanza District, Rwanda, who lives with a spinal condition affecting his mobility and communication.

Our project seeks to help Gevara access specialist consultations, physiotherapy, speech therapy and transport to medical appointments. It also aims to provide safe accommodation, basic necessities and educational support, alongside assistance for his mother, Elisabeth.

Funding remains the main barrier

The latest publicly available fundraising total is $21 against our $3,185 goal, leaving $3,164 still needed. We are grateful for every contribution. However, the funding gap remains substantial, and we cannot yet report new treatment or housing milestones based on the information available.

Our immediate priority

The first fundraising milestone identified in our previous update is $540 for specialist consultations. Reaching this milestone would help move the appeal toward its first planned medical support.

As further resources become available, the project aims to support therapy, transport and greater stability for Gevara and his mother.

You can help

Please consider donating again or sharing Gevara’s appeal with friends, colleagues and potential partners. Every contribution can help bring the planned support closer.

Thank you for standing with Gevara and his family.

Together, we can help turn compassion into practical care.

Gevara’s Current Situation and Support Update

On 15 October 2026 , Betty, our Children Program Manager followed up with Gevara’s mother through a home visit.

His caregiver reported that Gevara can now walk, although speaking remains difficult and he communicates with only a few words. His immediate priorities are specialist medical follow-up and an assessment of his speech and physiotherapy needs.

While no major project activities have yet been implemented, Dufatanye Organization has used its own limited resources to provide food support and assist with initial medical consultations. These contributions have helped address some immediate needs, but further funding is needed to support consistent care.

Our next priority is to arrange specialist medical follow-up for Gevara to assess his mobility and speech difficulties and guide further treatment. We aim to raise USD 540 toward the planned consultations, subject to funding availability and confirmation of current fees and appointments with the healthcare provider.
