Afghanistan is experiencing the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. 95% of the population is endangered by food insecurity or malnutrition to an unprecedented degree (UN OCHA). Our solidarity is needed now! In Mazer-e Sharif, we are organising a humanitarian relief for families in Afghanistan during Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting. Our goal this year is to raise 35.745 to support the nutrition of 300 families for 2-3 months. Can we reach this goal together?
Afghanistan is experiencing the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. 95% of the population is endangered by food insecurity or malnutrition to an unprecedented degree (UN OCHA). That is because of the economic collapse, the deterioration of the finance and health sector, extreme droughts and international sanctions after the Taliban took power. A downward spiral that has pulled nearly the entire population into poverty, more than 50% in urgent need of humanitarian action.
With our emergency aid, we want to counteract the catastrophic supply problem within the scope of our possibilities and provide the people with the very basics. To make a contribution, our local partner organisation OASE will distribute food packages to families in need. Our goal this year is to raise 35.745 to support the nutrition of 300 families for 2-3 months. The packages include 50 kg flour, 24 kg rice, 2 kg tomatoes, 7 kg sugar, 5 kg peas, 1 kg beans, 3,5 l oil and 1,5 kg green tea.
Sustainable improvement in Afghanistan requires political action. However, the acute humanitarian consequences - disease, flight, families separating, famine and death - need to be alleviated urgently while it is still possible. With our emergency aid, we want to make a contribution and create a long-term impact in the sense that potential deaths from hunger are being avoided. We all need to take on responsibility, to support the Afghan population and to show solidarity.
