Investing in gender equality and girl education can unlock human potential on a transformational scale. Yet, gender based discrimination is rampant in rural Indian society, where girls are struggling with poverty, low education and poor health. This project is focused on providing high quality Science education (Bachelors and Masters degree) to ambitious young girls at SRLC's own science college, and provide them with a path for financial freedom.
Women represent half of the world's population and therefore, half the potential of the world. Yet, young girls in rural India leave school to provide for their families instead of studying to reach their full potential. A daughter attending school and getting an education is not common practice yet in Indian society, girls are meant to take care of the family. SRLC hopes to change this mindset and empower young girls to attain STEM education and break the cycle of poverty.
SRLC's Science College is a state-of-the-art institution in a small village in Gujarat that allows students to receive graduate and under-graduate degrees in Chemistry, Microbiology, Botany, Mathematics. Unlike many other schools within India, the ratio of girls to boys within the college is 58:42. By receiving Bachelors and Masters degree in Science, girls will be able to march on the path of financial freedom, and reach their full potential.
Increase in gender equality at all levels of society Access to Science education to even neighboring villages and other parts on India Increase the number of girls with STEM education
