2018 has got off to a great start with the Women's Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR) team hard at work campaigning and advocating for sexual and reproductive health and rights across the world. We have been carrying out a number of activities with our partners and members in addition to also running 3 campaigns to raise awareness and challenge stigma and harmful social norms around sexual and reproductive health and rights.
In Tanzania, our staff has been working with a coalition who works to prevent and reduce maternal mortality and morbidity. Recently our staff participated at the quarterly meeting which was attended by 13 organizations who are working towards the realization of sexual and reproductive rights for all. Staff has also been running 2 rounds of 4 day of human rights based workshops in 2 communities in Tanzania and Ghana.
In addition to running and participating in workshops, WGNRR continues to campaign for sexual and reproductive health and rights for all, especially for those groups who are traditionally marginalized. Over the past few months, WGNRR has launched campaigns addressing: HIV, female genital mutilation, gender based violence and forced marriage to name but a few. These campaigns have played a crucial role in mobilizing individuals and organizations to demand justice through individual and collective action.
In the Philippines, WGNRR leads the implementation of the Philippine Safe Abortion Advocacy Network (PINSAN) 3D: Destigmatize, Demystify and Decriminalize abortion in the Philippines Project and focus its efforts towards a coherent and coordinated strategy to address the impact of unsafe abortion in the country.
The WGNRR is also getting ready for its participation at the 62nd Session of the Commission of the Status of Women at the United Nations where we will be drawing member state’s attention to fulfilling the sexual and reproductive health and rights of rural women and girls, as a crucial component of realizing their rights, and in turn their empowerment and wellbeing.
Despite the number of alarming rollbacks and restrictions affecting the sexual and reproductive health and rights movement, WGNRR is committed to running dynamic, vigilant and intersectional campaigns for transformative social change.
Your support thus far has been greatly appreciated. We hope you continue to support the important work which we do through another once off donation or by setting up a recurring donation. Even a monthly pledge of $5 can support us and our international campaigns which work to prioritize sexual and reproductive health and rights on political agendas.
We’re counting on you!
In solidarity,
Your WGNRR Team
