Cape CARES clinics have treated families and communities for three generations, making us one of the oldest NGO's in Honduras! Returning to each community multiple times a year has allowed for Cape CARES to build a team-centered primary care practice that provides medical and dental treatment, follow up care, preventive care, health education, and community needs assessments. Our largest cost is pharmaceuticals and supplies. That is where you come in.
Access to health and dental care has always been limited in Honduras. For those living in the rural areas that our clinic serves, long travel distances for care and very limited financial abilities to pay for the travel, patient visits, and medications, are just some of the barriers faced when trying to access health and dental care. Our patients rely on our clinics to provide them with quality care, and medications for acute or chronic illnesses. But the price of Pharmaceuticals is high!
For most of Cape CARES patients, our brigades are their only access to health and dental care. Our clinics provide much needed daily medication, annual check ups, and annual cleanings. Our medical clinic serves as a family practice, following patients over many years and treating for a variety of acute and chronic conditions, as well as screening and referral for more serious conditions. Our dental clinics not only provide dental care, but also dental education and fluoride treatments.
Cape CARES has worked to form sustainable long-term partnerships with community leaders to address overall health of the dry corridor in Honduras; for example, consulting on a water filter project, helping to provide women with prenatal vitamins, and holding community needs assessments and health educational sessions. We strive to create positive and sustainable changes in the lives of our patients, their families, and their communities. Our largest express is pharmaceuticals and supplies.
