Single mothers, Ukrainian refugees, living at the Nomentano reception center face severe social isolation and a lack of meaningful life experiences. They have no significant ties in Italy other than those with their children; in fact, they were not part of the solidarity network of Ukrainian women that SSF had come to know in the summer of 2021.
The involvement of the new referring organization, Nomentano, has therefore made it possible to expand the group of Ukrainian refugee beneficiaries and their children, providing much-needed support to young women in difficult circumstances. Through the project, they were able to meet fellow Ukrainian women whom they had not previously known, overcoming language barriers and broadening their social networks.
A particularly emblematic story is that of Natalia and her son. Natalia became socially engaged, overcoming a period of significant emotional vulnerability, and began training regularly with a group of Ukrainian female runners whom she met through Sport Senza Frontiere. She now not only participates in the Amica Acqua project, but ran the Rome Marathon alongside her teammates, carrying a message of peace and integration.
