More and more young refugees living in camps in Lebanon are enjoying playing cricket and developing valuable life skills thanks to the cricket programme offered by the Alsama Project. What began as a small practice sessions in Shatila refugee camp on an improvised pitch has grown into a flourishing network of 15 cricket hubs across Lebanon, engaging over 590 young refugees.

Moreover, at the end of November, when the finals of the Alsama soft-ball cricket championships took place, there were one thousand children as spectators, carried in relays by 37 buses from three refugee camps. Such was the passion for cricket amongst the players and the crowd.
Youth Sport Trust International is committed to supporting the Alsama Project by providing online youth sport leadership training. In 2026 we hope to visit Lebanon to deliver face to face training to nurture in young refugees the skills they need to thrive both on and off the field.
