In May 2024, an unimaginable climate disaster occurred in the Rio Grande do Sul region of Brazil. An "el nino" storm brought nonstop rainfall for four days, unexpectedly causing the worst flooding ever recorded in this region. The resulting floods left hundreds of children without school for months, detrimentally affecting their physical and emotional health and overall development.
The floods that occurred in May 2024 affected hundreds of families who were left homeless and without jobs. Children were painfully affected by this disaster, experiencing first-hand the panic of losing their homes, their schools and many of them close relatives. Many of these children developed post-traumatic disorders, and continue to endure anxiety attacks, fear, insecurity, emotional regressions and even health problems (mainly respiratory).
With this program, we seek to restore children's self-esteem, self-confidence as well as promote social inclusion, personal and community development, in addition to offering opportunities that help transform the lives of children and their families through sports practice (specifically basketball), educational content and an entrepreneurial spirit.
The project has already been successfully implemented some schools to rescue children from extreme situations by promoting sports activities that have achieved significant and very extraordinary results in the development of the children involved. The success of the project in many schools reinforces confidence in its continuity and expansion for children who have been physically and emotionally affected and live in social vulnerable situations.
This project has provided additional documentation in a XLSX file (projdoc.xlsx).
