The Girls Home School of Knowledge (SHUMAKWA) supports 50 girls and young women aged 14-24 who have survived domestic trafficking and sexual exploitation in Arusha and Manyara, Tanzania. Through an 18-month program, survivors receive education, vocational training, healthcare, psychosocial support, life skills, and reintegration assistance. Sponsorship helps them rebuild their lives with dignity, confidence, sustainable livelihoods, and hope.
Many girls rescued from domestic trafficking and sexual abuse in Tanzania face continued vulnerability due to lack of long-term support. Without access to education, healthcare, or safe reintegration, they risk re-trafficking, exploitation, and poverty. TAJPI's current efforts are impactful but limited by funding. Sustainable sponsorship is needed to provide consistent care, skill-building, and protection for these survivors to truly heal, thrive and live with dignity.
This project provides 50 survivors with a safe, structured 18-month program offering education, vocational training, healthcare, and psychosocial support. Sponsorship ensures each girl's full recovery journey is funded, enabling long-term stability. By equipping them with skills, emotional healing, and reintegration tools, the project reduces their vulnerability and empowers them to lead independent, dignified lives-breaking the cycle of exploitation.
The project will empower survivors to become self-reliant, reducing their risk of re-trafficking and poverty. Graduates will launch small businesses, pursue further education, or gain employment, contributing to their communities. As peer mentors, they will support future beneficiaries, creating a cycle of empowerment. Long-term, the project fosters safer communities, breaks generational cycles of abuse, and promotes gender equality and economic resilience in underserved areas.
