By Kulihoshi M | Provincial Coordinator of North Kivu
Only the work we did at the community levels remains in this critical situation when refugees are now facing the real community protection in Kivu the Democratic Republic of Congo, right now our work is showing its great value
At this time a big part of Kivu is being occupied by M23 backed by Rwanda and over the years, Rwanda has been targeting Hutus refugees because they are just Hutus. For the last two months now Kivu is occupied and in this situation all humanitarian organizations vanished, UNHCR Protection Team which claims the protection of refugees is no longer there, all those who gain a lot of money in the name of refugee protection went back to their developed countries and are enjoying while refugees are left alone.
In this way, we went back to the real refugee protection through the community and it is the only option available but which has never been supported financially despite our various calls for actions. When we speak about the Community here we refer to first of all the refugee community that is helping each other in order to survive in different way through access to information, strategies in order to hide and to remain safe, basic needs such as shelter, food, clothes and medical treatment, among others,
The community is also the host community the Congolese who are living alongside refugees and at this particular are doing everything to ensure that they all safe together with refugees and sharing everything they have.
We are so proud that for the two years we share a lot information among community members in order to help them to understand better who refugees are and how best they can be assisted, and we are happy to observe that up to now the host communities have too supportive to refugees and generally all refugees are safe and people still want to ensure that they secure. Thanks for this great work.
Let us support the community initiatives, please support our work at the community level and together we can make a difference.
