This project connects sponsors to Wens, a student studying at Haitian Connection Network's (HCN) Student Computer Center, located in Montrouis, Haiti. $2,000 provides Wens with all the tools necessary for 1 whole year in HCN's Higher Education Program.
In 2010, Haiti lost 28 of 32 higher education institutions in the earthquake. Haiti has an extreme demand for educated workers, but without access to higher learning, Haitians remain uneducated and unemployed. Haiti is a country full of potential for self-reliance, a goal overshadowed by poverty. Providing the means for Haitians like Wens to become educated and gainfully employed helps alleviate poverty, one student at a time.
$2,000 provides 1 meal per day, internet, a laptop, energy, on-site tech help and staff, online higher education programs, business mentors, hands on seminars, admissions counseling, and job placement assistance for 1 year.
Educating Haitians and providing job placement assistance means Haiti will become more economically stable, alleviating poverty that has crippled Haiti for too long. This project goes beyond helping individual students. All of Haiti will benefit in the long-run.
