Every child deserves a chance to learn. However, in India, there are still many uncountable children out there who are uneducated because they are unable to afford this basic necessity of a school kit which many of us take for granted.

Since 2007, the school kit drive team has been trying to reach out to children in both the cities and the rural areas. Each year, the YFS teams bring together individuals in colleges, corporates and apartment complexes and assemble the school kits.

Children who see the unskilled labour done by their families as an easy source of income, do not understand the positive outcomes of going to school. This initiative attempts to remove the haze around the incentives of receiving an education.

In 2015, YFS has reached out to about 40,000 children, majority in rural areas, through the School Kit Drive, including students in earthquake-affected Nepal, Chhattisgarh and Orissa.

School Kits & Rain Coats were distributed in 55-60 selected schools of Thirthahalli and Sringeri taluksof Karnataka on 11, 12 & 13 June, 2015.  The bags consisted of note books+stationary (pen/pencil/pencil box/eraser/sharpener/scale/instrument box) inside them. 4 volunteers from Bengaluru and local volunteers joined to form 4 teams in Thirthahalli to cover selected schools in 4 different directions. In Sringeri distribution was done by two teams.
Since these areas get heavy rains, distribution of raincoats was highly appreciated by the teachers and the SDMC members and also liked by the kids. In fact in the previous years it is the teachers of some schools who had requested us to distribute Rain Coats. Teachers say economic condition of some students are so bad that they even cannot afford to buy an umbrella. Rain Coats were stitched in 3 different sizes - S, M & L.  It was taken care that each student gets his/her size properly.
We thank all the donors and look forward to your continual support in reaching out to the needy.
