Lighting the Way: Scholarship Impact

By Debbie and Team | Laos Teachers

Dear Friends,

Imagine a young student—at 7 or 8 years old—sitting in a crowded classroom, watching as other kids scribble in bright notebooks, while she scribbles on scraps of paper. That was life for many children in rural Laos before your support arrived. Over the past three months, we’ve been able to help change that story—one scholarship at a time.

Thanks to your generosity, 15 students are now fully supported with monthly scholarships. These funds cover school fees, uniforms, textbooks, and nutritious meals—each of which plays a critical role in keeping them in school and helping them thrive. Instead of worrying about missing lessons, these children arrive eager to learn, equipped with the tools they need and the confidence to participate.

One mother shared that her daughter used to walk two hours each way to school, only to drop out because of the costs. Now, with her scholarship covering meals and school fees, she’s back in class—smiling, growing, and dreaming of becoming a teacher one day. “This support means everything,” she told us. “It feels like hope.”

But this vital work costs real money—scholarships require consistent funding to keep students enrolled and engaged. Scholarships are more than money: they’re investments in dreams, families, and entire communities. With each child we support, we’re building a ripple effect that strengthens schools and inspires those around them.

Looking Ahead: GlobalGiving Bonus Day – 16–17 July

We’re excited to share that GlobalGiving’s Bonus Day is happening on July 16–17. During this event, donations between $100 and $1,000 will share in a $125,000 Incentive Fund. It’s a powerful opportunity to stretch your gift even further—and help us open the door to education for more students in Laos.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Because of you, children are learning, families are hopeful, and communities are changing—one scholarship at a time.
