Nigeria has over 10 million school drops-outs; the highest amount in the world. UNICEF estimates the at least 15,000 children in North East Nigeria have stopped attending classes due to the Boko Haram situation. In Yola it is not uncommon to see kids roaming the streets when they should be in school. This project is bridging the education gap by providing sponsorship for 100 at-risk to attend Standard Academy elementary school in Yola, Nigeria. Sponsorship includes books, clothing and meals.
Under funding of public education in North East Nigeria has denied thousands of children a basic education. Instead of attending school, many children become street hawkers, beggars, prostitutes and are easily recruited as extremists and terrorists. Indeed, UNICEF cataloged a 400% increase in child bombers in North East Nigeria this year. Our project will sponsor the education of 100 orphaned, displaced and vulnerable kids in the North East Nigerian city of Yola
We have identified orphaned and vulnerable children that can excel in school and become productive citizens if given the opportunity. Our plans is to sponsor 100 at risk children (between the ages: 7 to 12) at Standard Academy elementary school in Yola, Nigeria. This project will provide at-risks kids with books, uniforms as well as healthy meals, medicines and a great education.
The long term benefits of the Project include: (a) A skilled youthful population that will become productive members of the society. (b) help in breaking the poverty chain of children becoming like their parents (c) prevent the spread of preventable and disease among the young population (d) prevent young people from been recruited as terrorist (e) contribute in bridging the gap between the haves and the haves nots.
