Functional deterioration due to advanced age, affects the health and quality of life of people, with physical, psychological and social consequences, and results in difficulties in carrying out common activities, which increases the possibilities of dependence on care. Both for physical and gender issues, women and men live differently the aging process, as well as the impact on their health.
77.7% of men and 82.6% of elderly women perceive difficult or impossible to resort to someone to get a job; these percentages increase to 78.6% and 85.9% of men and women in poverty, respectively. About 44% of the elderly adult population, and half of older adults living in poverty, consider it would be very difficult or impossible to get help to be cared for during a period of illness.
