Empower 50 Children with Disability

By Edyth Bones | Co-founder

Dear GlobalGiving Team and Supporters,

Warm greetings from Leroy Bones Foundation.

We are grateful to share an update on our “Empower 50 Children with Disabilities in Kenya” project and the difference your support is making in the lives of children and their families.

Through this project, we are providing ongoing monthly support to children with disabilities and their families, with assistance guided by each family's most urgent need. Rather than providing the same type of support to every family, we listen to caregivers and allow each family to identify the area where assistance would make the greatest difference in their child's life.

Through the support received so far, children and families have benefited from:

  • Nutrition support to help families meet their children's basic nutritional needs.
  • Therapy services to support children's development and participation.
  • Educational support to help children access and remain in school.
  • Assistive devices, including mobility equipment that enables children to participate more fully in school, family, and community life.
  • Other essential support based on the individual circumstances and priorities identified by each family.

A Story of Hope

One of the most encouraging outcomes of this project is the story of a young boy with a disability who had never had the opportunity to attend school.

For his family, the cost of education and the additional support he needed had been a major barrier. Like many families raising children with disabilities, they faced difficult financial challenges and had limited options for accessing appropriate educational opportunities.

Through the support provided by the Empower 50 Children project, the boy was finally able to join school for the first time.

Seeing him take this important step has brought tremendous hope to his family. He now has an opportunity to learn, interact with other children, develop new skills, and discover his abilities in an environment where he can be supported.

His journey reminds us that empowerment can begin with something as fundamental as opening the door to a classroom.

Why We Need Your Continued Support

There are many more children like him who are still waiting for an opportunity to go to school, access therapy, receive adequate nutrition, or obtain an assistive device.

Our goal is to empower 50 children, but we can only reach this goal with continued donor support. Every contribution helps us respond to a family's most urgent need and gives children opportunities that might otherwise remain out of reach.

We appeal to our GlobalGiving community to continue giving and to share this project with friends, family, colleagues, and networks. Your support can help another child take their first step into school, receive the therapy they need, or gain the assistive device that can transform their participation and independence.

Thank you for believing in children with disabilities and for helping us build a future where they are included, supported, and given the opportunity to reach their potential.

Together, we can empower 50 children—one child, one family, and one life-changing opportunity at a time.

With sincere gratitude
