Hello all from the Shining Light School!
The children are still on summer holiday, but they will resume back to school soon. Over the summer, we ran a campaign to help raise funds for the school. We used a trusted platfrom, Blessmi, and it offers a way for people to donate here in the local currency. You can find the link on our Instagram page @ibsfnigeria. We will run another one soon, after the school year has started. We also have big plans to bring back the IBSF Fundraiser Night, in a new way. Stay tuned for more details about that!
As the naira continues to crash against the USD, things here have become increasingly more expensive. For an example, the fuel subsidy that the government offered was partially removed and gasoline went from an average of N160 per liter to N650 per liter. In gallons that's about $0.80 per gallon and now it's $3.00 per gallon, in a few months' time - yet the salary for the average worker here has not increased at all. Times are difficult, and still you will find people having bright smiles on their faces and being optimistic.
Once again, thank you for all your contributions that have helped us get to where we are today. We hope to continue to provide an education for these smiling faces at the Shining Light School.
