In the heart of Njinikom Subdivision, a remarkable transformation is underway, thanks to our initiative aimed at improving nutrition and household incomes for vulnerable women. Meet Grace, a single mother of four, who embodies the spirit of resilience and hope.
Before joining the program, Grace struggled to provide for her family. With limited access to resources and skills, she faced the daily challenge of meeting her children’s basic needs. However, everything changed when she became one of the 40 beneficiaries selected for our Sustainable Market Gardening project
The primary goal of this project was to empower 40 vulnerable women like Grace with essential livelihood skills in sustainable vegetable gardening, business management, and marketing dynamics. Through hands-on training sessions, participants learned how to cultivate healthy produce while also understanding the intricacies of running a small business.
After completing their training, each participant received comprehensive support to ensure their success. This included:
- Improved Seeds and Farm Inputs: Beneficiaries received high-quality seeds and essential farm inputs tailored to the local climate and soil conditions.
- Basic Equipment: Tools were provided to facilitate efficient gardening practices.
- Field Follow-up Services: For two months, our team offered on-site support, helping participants establish their individual garden plots and group farms.
For Grace, this support was life-changing. With her newly acquired skills and resources, she planted a variety of vegetables, including cabbages Huckleberry, peppers, and leafy greens. Not only did her garden thrive, but it became a source of nutritious food for her family. The surplus produce allowed her to sell at local markets, significantly boosting her household income.
Through this initiative, we have empowered 40 individuals, providing them with the tools and knowledge to improve their nutrition and financial stability. The impact extends beyond just the beneficiaries; their families and communities are also reaping the benefits of increased food security and economic resilience.
