This project seeks to empower vulnerable rural windows and Single mothers through improve skills training and support in market gardening. By providing improved seeds and basic farm equipment and we would enable the women to establish and manage fruit/vegetable garden plots. The produce would be for household consumption, which supports nutrition, and for sale, increasing families' income levels. The goal is to curb malnutrition and alleviate extreme poverty among poor women led households.
Rural women in Bamenda face ongoing abuse and discriminatory socio-cultural practices that perpetuate violence against them, impeding their empowerment and freedom. Gender norms in these communities often prioritize men's roles and downplay the importance of girls' education, reinforcing the belief that women's primary role is childbearing and limited to domestic activities. Consequently, they bear the burden of providing food and other basic family needs often with no source of income or skill.
The project aims to empower vulnerable rural women, particularly widows /single mothers through skills training in market gardening, business management, and marketing strategies. They will receive improved seeds, farm inputs, basic equipment support and technical follow-up services to help them establish and manage their gardens successfully. The produce will serve both for household consumption, supporting nutrition, and for sale, increasing income levels.
The project will bring lasting economic empowerment, food security, sustainable development, gender equality, and community development to the targeted communities in the northwest region of Cameroon. Through skills training, resources, and support in sustainable market gardening, vulnerable women will achieve economic independence, improved nutrition, and environmental sustainability. This will lead to long-term positive changes, including poverty reduction and increased social empowerment.
