Summary

Children in Medellin's tenements live one block from the city's largest homeless population. $100 a month sponsors one child: daily learning, meals, and psychosocial follow-up, all year long. Help reduce the number of people living on the streets.

Challenge

In La Candelaria, Medellin, entire families rent one room in a tenement. Children sleep, eat and do homework in the same few square meters, beside the largest concentration of homeless adults in the city. Most parents work informal hours and cannot supervise. 39% of children and young people who live in these tenants have suffered interruptions in their school district, and the community School attendance drops, then stops. The street is not an abstract risk here. It is one block away.

Solution

Are safe and protective environments where children can access quality education and comprehensive psychosocial support. By nurturing their potential, we actively work to break cycles of vulnerability, preventing the risks of street residency and substance. Sponsorship covers one child's full year: a place in our daily learning sessions, hot meals, personal school materials, and individual psychosocial follow-up with their family. We track each sponsored child by attendance and school progress.

Long-Term Impact

A sponsored child remains enrolled, receives daily meals and education, and is known by adults who are not homeless. This breaks the cycle from living in an room building to ending up on the streets. It's a support network.
