Diabetes is rising at an alarming rate in Pakistan and currently, Pakistan has the third highest prevalence of Diabetes globally. In order to tackle the lack of screening and health awareness about Diabetes, our program will: Screen 100 people in rural Sindh (Thatta) for Diabetes The project will provide a holistic treatment which includes medicines, dietary counselling and regular follow-ups with specialists such as ophthalmology care, podiatry care etc to 50 patients
Pakistan has the third highest Diabetes prevalence in the world. According to the IDF, Pakistan's Diabetes prevalence has increased by 148%, an alarming rate. Despite a high disease burden treatment remains low because of lack of health literacy, screening services and universal healthcare in the country. Moreover, because of a huge inequality between urban and rural areas, Diabetic patients are often unaware of their condition until the disease reaches an alarming severity.
The Diabetes, Hyperlipidemia and Hypertension program intends to identify adults in Gharo at risk of Type 2 diabetes and hypertension. It will provide early intervention through a holistic healthcare program which focuses on dietary intervention as well as dissemination of information to the grassroots level. Through this program, we will offer free medication to those identified as diabetic for one year, along with coaching them on lifestyle changes so as to improve their quality of living.
Through early detection and treatment of Diabetes, this program will improve the quality of life in rural areas and reduce the DALYs (Disability-adjusted-life-years) associated with the disease. Reduce risk of severity among Diabetes patients by providing them early medical intervention. We will randomly screen patients and thus, do a timely intervention before the disease reaches severity, thus saving patients from disabilities
