Brief Introduction:
Chethana Special School, Karkala in Udupi district is established in the year 2004 under the patronage of “Bharathi Seva Mandali Trust®”, Karkala with a intention of enlightening the life of differently abled children. The main objective of our special school is to educate and rehabilitate mentally and physically challenged children through appropriate training enabling them to lead independent life in the best possible manner. At present there are 10 specially trained teaching staff, 01 Physiotherapist and 9 non teaching staff members working for the school. The present student strength of the school is 80. Most of the students are from rural areas in and around Karkala and 80% of the parents are from below poverty line. The school provides free education and conveyance, in addition to morning tiffin and midday meals to the children.
School Activities:
Keeping the student welfare in mind the school also offers free training in Yoga, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Music, Dance, Yakshagana, Physical education, computer class, tailoring class, Vocational training and training in personal hygiene along with literacy education. They are also trained in various hand made crafts for self reliance.
Monthly Expenses:
Staff Salary - $ 3100
Transport & Vehicle Maintanance - $ 1285
Food Expenses - $ 1500
Electricals & Telephone Bill - $ 150
Medical Expenses - $ 285
Sports & Cultural - $ 70
Teaching Matirial - $ 140
Contingencies & other Maintanance - $ 285
Total $ 6825
For providing uniform we are spending $ 1100 per year for 80 students.
Average food expenses comes $ 50 per day for 80 students.
Average monthly expenses comes to $ 90 per child.
Average food expenses comes to $ 300 per year per child.
Some children reqired extra help to learn basic skills. they are:
1. Articulation & Phonological Problems.
2. Expressive or Receiptive
3. Stuttering Dysorthria
4. Audiology Rehabilitation
5. Learning disability
6. Alphasia
