Hi all! We are excited to announce that we have successfully completed two Spay Clinics!
The first one at St Anne’s High School in Malkerns (central Eswatini) was held in memory of Lisa Webb, where we sterilised 28 female dogs, 9 male dogs and 3 cats. We also treated a further 32 male dogs, 24 female dogs and 1 male cat – bringing the number of animals treated to 97! This was a relatively smooth day with very few hiccups, which were to be expected after such a long period.
Our second Spay Day was held at Mbasheni Primary School in the north of the country. This was held in conjunction with Vusumnotfo, an NGO based in that area. who picked up the majority of the costs for the Clinic (also funded via GlobalGiving – visit globalgiving.org/projects/promoting-animal-care-in-rural-swaziland). These Clinics are only possible with the voluntary assistance of Veterinarians from the Swaziland Veterinary Association, students from Waterford AWARE (a community service group from Waterford Kamhlaba United World College School) and many volunteers who give their time to make the Clinics successful.
We are attaching a few photo’s from our Malkerns Clinic, where we were also able to supply collars and leads (donated by members of the public) to those dogs who came with chains around their necks. This was a very welcome addition to our services. Also, all the animals operated on went home with a small supply of food and a carpet square to sleep on.
Our plan is to carry out 2 Clinics in 2023 – the areas are still to be confirmed, but the drive for funds has to remain constant – and so we appeal to you for your continued support of this project to carry us into the future and help us stop the overpopulation of pets, and consequently also reduce the incidence of rabies, road accidents, dog fights and put an end to the unnecessary suffering of companion animals in Eswatini.
