Health Equity International / St. Boniface Hospital (HEI/SBH) has a four-decade track record of leading lifesaving emergency responses following natural disasters, political unrest, and health crises alike. When disaster strikes, we respond to the need immediately and deepen our impact by partnering directly with local civil society organizations, government agencies, and international humanitarian organizations. Through each crisis, we invest in strengthening permanent hospital programs and services to better serve patients over the long-term and incorporate lessons learned into our emergency response protocols.
In a recent webinar, Militza Michel, HEI/SBH Director of Operations, shares lessons learned from HEI/SBH’s 2021 earthquake response and discusses how we are preparing for future disasters. Follow this link to watch the presentation, which begins at 12:48.
Featured Patient Story: Meet Rithna
When little Rithna was gravely injured in the August 2021 earthquake in southern Haiti, her father Reginald stopped at nothing to find her the lifesaving care she needed. At SBH, Rithna received urgent surgery—and made fast friends with our entire nursing staff. In this video, Reginald details the quality, compassionate care he found for his daughter from the first moment they arrived.
