Health Equity International/St. Boniface Hospital (HEI/SBH) has been leading the ongoing recovery effort in the wake of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that devastated southern Haiti in August 2021. After providing urgent care to survivors, we have been working tirelessly to restore survivors' access to care and strengthen the region's health system. Your support will ensure we have the resources to deliver the quality health services survivors need and deserve.
Damage from the earthquake has profoundly impacted southern Haiti's already limited capacity for surgical and emergency care. SBH was already operating at 120% capacity and is now receiving patients from hospitals throughout the region. Amid this crisis, HEI/SBH is also navigating ongoing unrest and seeing nearly 500 daily patient visits. HEI must ensure we can care for every patient in need and save lives in the wake of the disaster.
Your support will help HEI buy essential medications, equipment, and supplies for life-saving care and enable us to distribute critical resources to our partner hospitals in the earthquake zone. HEI has a proven track record of operating throughout natural disasters, periods of unrest, and other challenges, from the 2010 earthquake to 2016's Hurricane Matthew.
Supporting HEI/SBH means patients will not have to sacrifice essential medical care during an emergency. When patients have access to urgent care, they recover faster and suffer fewer long-term complications. Your support will also help strengthen HEI's role as a regional hub for disaster relief and recovery, and help our overall health system strengthening activities to enhance the region's capacity to respond to future disasters.
