You're Helping Newly Displaced Families in S Sudan

By Taylor Jashinsky | Communications Coordinator

Families will have enough to eat with these seeds!
Families will have enough to eat with these seeds!

Your support has provided much needed supplies for those in the midst of on-going turmoil in South Sudan recently.

In a constant state of uncertainty, the world’s youngest nation is in need of our attention and help. As the displaced persons count continues to rise, men, women and children find themselves without enough food to eat or a proper shelter to live in and not to mention, are living in constant fear of more attacks.

Earlier this month, our staff in the Wau region of South Sudan were evacuated due to an increase in violence in the area. They have since returned and thanks to you, brought with them the necessities that families need - such as tarps and tent materials, rope, nails and wood stakes for building shelters and other essential emergency survival supplies to help those in need.

With some 38,858 men, women and children finding refuge in overly crowded displacement camps in Wau, it’s vital for families to be able to construct their own protective shelters to keep them dry and safe.

Beyond that, a drastic increase in the price of food – up to 10 times more expensive than usual for staple items – has only worsened the problem for those who have been forced to flee their land due to violence.

Your gifts most recently helped these hungry families receive enough to eat. During a seed distribution, families were given two bags of seeds in an effort to not only provide for their immediate food shortage needs but also to ensure they have enough to eat in the future. Community members worked together to see that all families received their seeds during the distribution.

“It’s important to us to not only help ourselves but also to help others,” one seed recipient explains. It’s encouraging to see such a strong sense of comradery and compassion among those who have been displaced, especially during such volatile times.

The impact of your gift reaches far beyond today’s issues in South Sudan and into future generations who will help shape how their country grows up.

Although peace and stability are constantly in flux in South Sudan, we are hopeful that with the help of people like you, we can continue to support those whose lives have been up-rooted and ultimately bring hope and change to a country in desperation.

It’s during these difficult times that your gifts have the greatest impact. Thank you so much for bringing hope and help to the displaced families of South Sudan.
