You're Helping Save Lives with Emergency Food

By Cathy Herholdt | Communications Officer

Your gifts are helping provide emergency food.
Your gifts are helping provide emergency food.

With your help, thousands of hungry families in South Sudan are receiving emergency food, halting the damaging effects of malnutrition and ensuring young children can grow healthy. Your gifts are helping provide emergency food rations, including beans, sugar, vegetable oil, salt, and cornmeal.

And, you’re giving them more than a hand-out. Your support also provides farming assistance—seeds, tools, and training—so these families can grow healthy crops to sustain themselves long-term.

For months, the fledgling nation of South Sudan has teetered on the brink of famine. Millions displaced by violence were unable to plant crops before the rainy season. Without intervention, there would be no harvest for them.

In Warrap state, the average family is only able to spend 70 cents a day on food. Can you imagine having less than a dollar a day to feed your little ones? Because of this, many children are malnourished and at risk of not developing properly.

You’re providing life-saving assistance for these families—and more. With enough food, parents can focus on resettling, planting, and earning income. This is lasting change. And you helped make this possible.

With your support, hungry families received food.
