Quality Education in Remote Kenyan Primary Schools

By Angela | Grants Manager

Greetings from So They Can in Kenya.

First and foremost, thank you for your generous support of So They Can's work in Baringo! Every year Quarter 4 is when we prioritise the construction of critical school infrastructure. Through our School Improvement project we ensure that schools have adequate infrastructure (especially classrooms, toilets and water), and that all facilities are safe and inclusive.

From October to December 2024 we achieved a lot. We are very pleased to share the significant scope of our school infrastructure work across our 10 partner Government primary schools, which your donation was used towards. Thank you.

School Improvement Project

  • 1 deep water borehole was drilled at Chesirimion Primary School to provide access to clean water for the whole school community.
  • 2 classrooms and 1 boys' dormitory were renovated at Chemolingot Primary School. The school's borehole was also rehabiilitated to ensure continued access to clean water.
  • 1 Administration block with 3 offices (1 staffroom,1 office for the Head Teacher and 1 library) was renovated at Chesirimion Primary School.
  • 1 classroom, the school's Administration Block, and the school's Store Room were renovated at KatKit Primary School.
  • 2 classrooms and a 100-bed dormitory were renovated at Nakoko Primary School.
  • 4 toilet blocks with a total of 24 new toilets were consturcted in 2 primary schools (Lemuyek and AIC Sunrise Primary Schools). The additional toilets, improve the toilet to pupil ratio to meet receommended Government standards, and improve sanitation and hygeine.
  • 3 girls' changing rooms were constructed at 3 primary schools (Chesirimion. Nakoko and Ng'ambo Primary Schools) to ensure that menstruating girls have access to gender disaggregated facilities.
  • 2 school kitchens were constructed at 2 primary schools (Ng'ambo and Nakoko Primary Schools) to ensure that school feeding programs are being prepared and cooked in a hygienic environment.
