4,000 children and 130 teachers access quality education across 10 government primary schools in remote Kenyan communities.
Baringo in Kenya is one of the poorest regions in Kenya, and East Africa. Communities live remotely in semi-arid conditions, and lack access to education, employment, infrastructure, community safety, and a social support system. Primary education outcomes are inadequate across the region, and families remain stuck in intergenerational poverty cycles.
So They Can works in direct partnership with 10 Government primary schools, that are severely under-resourced. In every school we implement all of the essentials for quality education: safe classrooms, toilets, access to clean water, food security, teacher training, child protection - especially for girls at high risk of female genital cutting (FGC), child marriage and pregnancy, engagement and capacity building of school management, parents and the wider community.
So They Can provides support through a 3-phased Sustainable Development Model over 8 years. We build every school's capacity through the provision of infrastructure, resources, training and advocacy so that they can independently sustain the delivery of quality education. Enrolment, attendance, academic performance and child wellbeing outcomes improve for 4,000 at risk children. To date we have improved primary school enrolment by 43%.
