SOS - Save Our Species is an answer to the global species extinction crisis, supporting on-the-ground actions all over the world where and when it can most effectively save threatened wildlife and plants, while also promoting sustainable livelihoods for local communities.
The diversity of life on our planet is breathtaking, offering a huge variety of animals and plants. We sometimes forget that we, as individuals, customers and businesses, depend on this diversity of life to provide us with the food, fuel, medicine and other essentials. Yet this rich diversity is disappearing at rates up to 1,000 times their natural level. Without immediate action, not only could many species disappear forever, but the very fabric of our society and livelihoods would be at risk.
SOS - Save Our Species channels money to high impact species conservation projects working to protect the world's most threatened species of plants and animals while supporting the communities who depend on them with sustainable alternative livelihoods. It harnesses 50 years of knowledge and expertise generated by the IUCN - the world's largest environmental organisation - to do this. SOS is already helping save over 200 species from extinction in 60 countries supporting 50 NGOs.
SOS - Save Our Species aims to save threatened species from extinction and help them thrive again in a healthy natural habitat, while building a better, sustainable relationship between man and nature.
