October Update on Tegaruka Secondary School

By Justin Ibrahim | Lake Zone Program Coordinator

On the 2nd of October 2013 TanzSolar made a routine maintenance visit to Tegeruka Secondary School to evaluate the operation of school's solar power system.  While reviewing the status of the school's lighting system, it was found that 9 LED lights in one of the classrooms aren't in proper working order and they should be replaced.  It was also observed that 2 connectors in the teachers homes systems need to be replaced.  These repairs will be made by TanzSolar as soon as possible.

The girls students don't feel comfortable to attend the school after darkness to study using the school's solar lighting system. It is not safe for them to make the trip, and the school doesn't have dormitories for boys or girls and it is a day school.  The school principal accepted our offer to donate 4 portable solar lights to be awarded to the top girls finishers of the upcoming standardized testing competition that will be held for all four grade levels.

The solar system has been greatly appreciated by both the school's faculty and the students. TanzSolar is doing all that is possible to maintain and upgrade the school's solar system. Other teachers who are living in the nearby village are also asking for those portable system like the ones at teacher's homes, and we hope to be able to provide lighting systems for all the teachers.
