TanzSolar’s Solar-Schools program has just completed the first Solar-School installation in Rural Musoma. This is a landmark project for the region, and we hope to complete 100 more Solar-School systems. This system is nearly 1 Kilowatt, and it powers classroom lights, lights in the main office and teachers' preparation room, lights in the on-campus teacher housing, outdoor security lights, plus power for a photocopier, computer and cell phone charger.
The teachers, administrators and students are thrilled to have electricity for the first time at their school. They don't have electricity at their homes, so they will be spending more time at school and we expect to see their academic achievement improve greatly.
Other news: TanzSolar received a big honor in June from the Green Africa program.
The annual Green Africa Award for Business was awarded to TanzSolar (www.tanzsolar.org) for championing environmental change in Africa. TanzSolar received the Award for bringing clean, renewable solar energy and electric lighting to villagers in Tanzania. TanzSolar received the Green Business & Environmental Management Award, one of ten categories.
