In rural Tanzania, students are navigating school without the digital tools they need to progress into a future beyond poverty. Powering Potential provides solar-powered computer labs, locally relevant educational content, and digital skills training. We equip students with vital skills for school, work, and life. This project will provide 160 students with the tools to pursue opportunity and step into a future they deserve.
In rural Tanzania, most public secondary schools lack the infrastructure students need to succeed, including reliable electricity, digital tools, and basic curriculum materials. With one textbook for every ten students and no computer access, first-generation learners, especially girls, face steep barriers to graduation and opportunity. Without the tools to thrive, they remain trapped in cycles of poverty defined by circumstance, not potential.
This project will provide a rural secondary school in Tanzania with a solar-powered computer lab, internet access, Shule Direct (a digitized version of the Tanzanian national curriculum), and structured digital skills training. By training teachers and students, and providing ongoing support, students access the learning materials and digital skills they need to graduate, find employment, and build a brighter future.
In schools we work with, graduation rates are 3x the national average, university and vocational attendance is 10x higher, and employment after graduation is 10x more likely. The jobs graduates are able to get due to their computer skills pay more and have more opportunities for advancement than those that do not use computers. Powering Potential computer labs create a pathway out of precarity for students, families, and communities.
