Power A Computer, Change A Life In Rural Tanzania

The next schools are preparing to receive their new solar-powered computer labs. Two schools have prepared a secure classroom to house the lab, and are building the tables and chairs for the room. They are very excited.

The staff in Tanzania have gathered baseline data from the next schools, so we can track the impact that the computer labs, learning materials, and digital skills training have on the students. The computers have also been ordered. At least one installation should begin this month!

With help from our generous donors, we have now installed four new solar-powered computer labs at four schools in rural Tanzania, impacting approximately 3500 students and teachers. With digital skills training and an internet connection, students can now access the latest resources to help the succeed at their exams, graduate from high school, and find employment.

Each school received 20 Windows desktops, a digitized version of the Tanzanian national curriculum called Shule Direct, Microsoft Office, and Scratch coding software. This year, we are piloting the provision of an internet connection so that students and teachers can access the learning tools available online from the Tanzanian Ministry of Education. Students and teachers also recived 2-3 weeks of training in basic computer skills, the use of Shule Direct as a teaching and learning tool, and Microsoft Office programs. 

There are now 12 remaining secondary schools in the region that are without a computer lab. We hope to bring digital learning to those students in 2026.
