Dear Donors,
Four years ago, we had dreamt a nearly impossible dream. In a small village tucked away near a wildlife reserve in Central India's Chambal valley, nearly 150 km from the nearest small city, we had dreamt of creating 24X7 connectivity for the young and bright students at the Adharshila School.
A few like-minded and far-seeing friends nurtured our dream. Niti Vaish and Minoo Patel from faraway Chicago heard about us and rose to the challenge of making our dream into a reality. They had visited Adharshila with their sons Aryo and Rohan, who had made good friends at Adharshila and wanted to keep their friendships alive through the internet.
With Niti and Minoo's help, we contacted Bhore Foundation, a group of wonderful and generous folks who gave us a grant to set up our own broadband internet tower and get the worldwide web into our classrooms.
Two years later, Adharshila joined the information superhighway, and our dreams got bigger. We wanted to set up a solar powered computer lab where our kids and teachers could learn continuously in a self-directed manner. That's when you stepped in, and made this dream also come true...
The solar-powered computer centre is up and running, and last month we carried out our first remote training in English language proficiency with LeapForWord, a fantastic organization working in this doman. Rohan and Aryo from Chicago have been in touch with their friends at Adharshila. This year, our kids used the internet extensively to researh on music, dance and costumes for their annual cultural programme.
We hope to take this initiative forward in various ways. We hope to connect with more trainers and volunteers who can give time regularly to Adharshila even if they can't make it there physically. We hope to bring dedicated doctors in touch with our community to provde online medical consultations. And these are just some of our dreams... we will dream bigger in the future, because you have provided us the basic platform from where we can fly...!
