Thank you for your continued trust and support. Thanks to you, we are making significant strides in providing sustainable energy and digital access in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement. This report highlights the exciting progress made possible by your donations.
1. Major Achievements: New Construction & Solar Power
We are thrilled to announce the completion of two major projects this period:
• A New Computer Lab at Rockland Primary School: We constructed a brand-new 7x6.6m computer lab from the ground up. The facility is now complete, featuring a modern 7.5 KW solar system that also provides lighting for three adjacent classroom blocks. The lab is furnished with a wooden computer cabinet, 23 student seats, and an office desk. We are now awaiting the final installation of air conditioning, internet, and 20 computers.
• Reliable Solar Power for Okubani Health Centre: In partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), we resolved critical power shortages at the Okubani Health Centre. We installed a robust new solar energy system (12 panels, 20 KW of batteries, and a 7.5 KW inverter) to power the Youth Centre, Outpatient section, and Male and Female Wards. We also repurposed existing equipment to create two additional solar units for the staff quarters. This reliable power source has brought immense joy to staff, patients, and our partners at IRC.
2. Project Updates: Overcoming Past Challenges
You may recall our previous report mentioned setbacks at the Kado and Koro labs due to a service provider. We have since overhauled our procurement process.
• Koro Primary School Lab Relocation: The initial computer lab at Koro was successfully set up in a converted staff room and is fully operational with computers, internet, and air conditioning. To free up that original classroom space, we have now constructed a new, dedicated 7x6.6m computer lab building. This new lab awaits its final cabinet, air conditioning, and the transfer of the computers and internet from the old room.
3. The Bigger Picture: Our Growing Impact
Your support has enabled us to establish five functional ICT centres (Twajiji Hope, Yangani, Kado, Koro, and Rockland), dramatically expanding digital literacy opportunities.
Our focus is now expanding beyond education. Using the successful model of our "Solar for Peace" program, we are beginning to power local businesses to create livelihoods and stimulate the local economy. Due to popular demand, we are also exploring replicating this program in the Imvepi Refugee Settlement.
4. Our Gratitude
GlobalGiving and donors like you are central to our success. Your contributions, no matter the size, have built this legacy. The Catholic Diocese of Arua is now recognized for its vital work with refugees, thanks to your partnership.
We are also deeply grateful to our esteemed implementation partners—UNHCR, OPM, IRC, and Windle International—for their constant collaboration.
Next Steps: We are confident that we will fully complete the Rockland ICT Centre and transfer all equipment to the new Koro Lab before the end of 2025.
Thank you for being a part of this transformative journey. Your generosity is powering education, healing, and hope.
Thanks and remain blessed!
