Announcing the Hope that Solar Light Inspires in Villagers of Kamsi, Burkina Faso

Village Buzz

The excitement at the thought of solar lighting and pride of the villagers in Kamsi in the Ouagadougou area of Burkina Faso in their children is evident for all to see. Please click on the following link to see what an elder of Kamsi Village has to say about the upcoming project.

Translation of the interview with Mr Pascal Yaméogo (Video 1)

Mr Yaméogo at Kamsi  says: “Many girls are content just learning in the classroom because of a  lack of light (at) night. With solar light (ing) they can also study (at) night and at the same time this will increase the academic success rate of girls in Kamsi and even improve the socio-economic advancement of the village.”

Our team, in keeping with our number one principle of transformation through consultation, set a strong foundation by engaging significant gatekeepers in the community.  Shared ideas between the CBG team members and the community gave rise to the strategy we will use in choosing where and how to install the solar panels that will generate power.

Solar Panel "Host" Families

It was decided that 50 families would be the “guardians of light” in the village.  Their houses have been selected to host the solar panels.  The families have agreed to be custodians of each unit to ensure safety and security. They have also agreed to make light available for the school learners in their families and neighboring homes to have access to after dark so they can extend study hours.

Installation of solar panels at the local school is also included in the project plan.  Your contribution has made the principal of the school overjoyed.  Once the solar panels  at the school are up and running who knows what creative innovations the principal and his team will undertake to accelerate learning in that community?  With electricity and access to clean water – the sky is the limit!

Your donation is making so much possible physically but in terms of lifting the human spirit of people in Kamsi village – your donation is priceless!  Thank you again for your generous support.

We are working hard to challenge even more people all over the world to help bring water and light to the villages of Burkina Faso.  Join us in challenging others!
