Bring Lights, Books and Computers to Niger

According to the World Bank Group, more than 50% of Nigerien children aged 7 to 16 are out of school. Now, after Niger's worst rainy season in three decades, getting to school is even harder. As parts of the country recorded 200% more rain than in prior years, over 1.1 million Nigeriens were displaced, and entire neighborhoods of homes were wiped away. In the aftermath of this destruction, communities worked to build back and resettle families – delaying the school year nationwide. Finally, kids are gearing up to return to school on Monday, October 28th.

In preparation for their return to school, RAIN worked to raise $29,449 in September. We're continuing to collect funds, with a match lasting through October 31st: You can help kids hit the ground running when schools reopen!

Your investment in this work is a key reason why, despite the 2023 coup and Niger’s growing challenges, girls are still in school. More than surviving, students are building on the strong foundation we have laid together – and now, in this time of crisis, that experience is paying off.

We know this because RAIN students are still succeeding; they exhibited a pass rate 25% higher than average, along with a 24% lower dropout and 1% lower repeat rate. Students are taking advantage of the opportunities RAIN offers to achieve academic success.

These students and their dogged determination are what motivate us to believe that success is possible, even against seemingly impossible odds.

One year post-coup, regional funding is drying up and organizations are slashing their budgets. Many organizations operating in Niger have cut education funding to focus on “essential needs.” RAIN believes that education is an essential need, an opportunity that cannot be replaced. Students and their families agree.
