RAIN Forges Ahead as Schools Open in Niger

By Kyana Burgess | Communications and Outreach Manager

As summer came to a close in Niger, many were left wondering if students would be able to return to school this fall. Between the upheaval caused by July's coup and the recent announcement of a 40% cut to the national budget, the fate of education for these students seemed to be hanging by a thread.

But guess what? We've got some fantastic news to share - schools are open once again! Our students have returned to the classroom, ready to continue their education. This year, RAIN's team is welcoming 62 students at the Agadez Learning Center (ALC) - a record number! Our dedicated staff is very excited to continue providing crucial support to our middle school students at the ALC by ensuring that they have the resources and guidance they need.

Especially during these difficult times, access to education and electricity are a lifeline to students looking to build a strong future for themselves. Your support enables us to continue providing these essential resources at the ALC, opening opportunities for students to continue working towards their dreams.

Hearing our students share their experiences puts the importance of this support into perspective. Students like Naodé describe the impact the ALC has on her life:

“At the Center, I like the electric light that makes everything clear as if it is day; the availability of water to the pump without long walks, and no loss of time to draw water; after-school courses are taught by teachers who have mastered their subjects; food is available and suitable for us; bedroom items are available for each student (bed, blanket, sheet, trunk to store our belongings, notebooks, pens, etc.);

…RAIN’s staff make available for us everything needed to make our lives pleasant at the Center and to allow us to succeed in our schooling.”

Your support empowers students like Naodé and her peers to forge a path of promise and possibility in the face of adversity. Please consider giving today and sharing RAIN’s mission with your friends and family to expand and strengthen our impact for students in Niger.
