It has been a tremendous work, but the garden is cleared! We took it upon ourselves to get the project done. After the work of 2 or 3 different volunteering groups, the garden was still not completely cleared. We planned on doing some landscaping as well, but that part is still left open.
May 22nd, we at Present The Hague had our teambuilding day planned and after some games, conversations and a good lunch, we made our way through The Hague and landed in the garden of the elderly brothers to do some final cleaning of the garden and some landscaping. It was about 30 degrees Celcius, so after every half hour of pulling out plants and putting trash in trashbins, we had to stop to drink enough water.
After loading our bus twice, full with bags of old plants and other garbage that you can find in a neglected garden, there were still 5-6 bags left to be thrown away. We decided to call it a day and make arrangements to get the garbage be taking out on another occasion.
We were sad that we couldn't plant any flowers that day, but on the other hand: the garden was finally cleared!! We are now making arangements that the neighbourhood can step in to get the brothers their garden they deserve. And to keep it that way, so that they can enjoy it as long as they will live in their home.
