As we mentioned in the previous report, during 2022 we hosted more than 50 workshops and the participants got familiar with the settlement, and its everyday life and met several families, who shared their stories during the lunch breaks of the workshops. besides the tourism agencies, we received bookings from Harvard University students and professors who were interested in the South Caucasus and the conditions of Internally Displaced People in Georgia. This is another added value for us since such meetings raise awareness about the reality we live in Georgia.
Ikorta has workshop bookings of around 64 groups of international visitors. We offer both enamel jewelry and cultural exchange workshops. So when tourists from different countries try to work on enamel jewelry they also have a chance of visiting local families in Tserovani and exploring their everyday life. Have a light lunch with them and talk about the displacement and current situation in the IDP’s settlement. Through this activity, we try to raise awareness about the Georgian Russian war of 2008 and also support locals to have some income as a result of such activities.
We are trying to support Ukrainian Refugees in Georgia and creating a community council with them in order to advocate for their problems and needs in Georgia.
We always try to support economic growth on a local level, especially among women, For this reason, we hired 4 interns in 2023 in order to increase their professional skills and in case of desire, they will stay with us and will work on their economic stability.
We also applied for funding that might provide the possibility of improving our space with the additional rooms and technique, if everything goes well we will manage to host bigger groups of tourists and with the income, we will plan to provide better facilities for the visitors. Reopening our case is one of the most desired outcomes for us in the future and we need your support in this regard.
We want to thank you again for your support and wish you all to stay safe and have a chance to improve the lives of those in need.
Kind regards,
Nana Chkareuli
