We won a game, the championship continues !

We won a game, the championship continues!

Second League of Fútbol Más Haiti, improvements in emotional, relational and behavioral dimensions as well as well-being of children and adolescents, consolidation of networking...we made progress thanks to you.

Between mid-June and late August, children and adolescents were on vacation, however, classes have been conducted in the same way until July 31th, date in which a great event took place: the Second League of Fútbol Más Haiti! These classes lasted longer and had a dance component, in order to prepare the D-day. On that occasion, the community of Divine Providence school met the community of Bajo Canaan at the Olympic Center for Hope in Port-au-Prince, where they shared with much happiness and energy. In that event, nearly 300 people, including children, youth leaders, school teachers, parents, community residents, leaders of international organizations, Ambassadors and Authorities of the Air Force of Chile, among others, participated.

At the same time, we had a meeting with Father Marcos Recolons SJ, Director of Fe y Alegría schools in Haiti who showed interest in continuation and expansion of Fútbol Más Program in Haiti. During the month of August, a working group was also held in Canaan between the Director of Fe y Alegria (institution the school belongs to), América Solidaria and Fútbol Más in order to coordinate and follow the same line of work. During this working group, we presented the favorable results revealed by the latest Fútbol Más Program evaluation led in Haiti in June 2016, which are as follows:

- 128 children and adolescents participating in the program.

- 17 school teachers being trained in the Fútbol Más methodology.

- 19 young being trained in the Fútbol Más methodology.

- 88% of teachers and 95% of parents believe that the program brings positive changes in children and adolescents.

- 92% of parents believe that Fútbol Más is a positive contribution for the schools with which we are working.

- 100% of parents want the program to continue.

Between January and June of 2016:

- The % of children and adolescents participating in the program who are in the "normal" range of mental health state (According to the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire) went from 48% to 66%.

- The satisfaction of children and adolescents regarding their family life, friendships, school experience, place where they are living, life in general and their average of happiness increased.

Recent hurricane Matthew that devastated the island last October 4th increased doubtlessly the adversities which children and adolescents must face every day in Haiti. While the school Institution Mixte Divine Providence is not located in the most affected area, unfortunately many of the children and adolescents as well as professors of Fútbol Más family have lost family in the disaster and/or have seen their houses destroyed. Also, because of the disaster, diseases such as cholera are emerging. In front of this emergency context, more than ever, it is necessary that protected areas promoted by Fútbol Más continue to exist and can benefit more children and adolescents. Indeed, they are places of interaction, support and recreation which contribute to a better recovery from this type of emergency, as well as provide tools to face better possible similar events in the future. We thank you for the valuable support which allowed us, along with international funds, to achieve the results described above. We invite you to continue contributing so that the 100 children and adolescents of Divine Providence school can continue to attend classes even more outstanding in this context of emergency.
