This project will build a soccer field in Jeremie, Haiti providing something resembling a real childhood to 150 orphans who are living day to day through the joy of sport and enriching exercise.
Currently, the children in Jeremie, Haiti play in a rocky dirt field without the proper equipment or clothing needed to enjoy the sport safely and at the same level as children in other countries. This project will help provide 150 orphans with something resembling a childhood that is already enjoyed by children in more developed countries.
The project will provide a safe field to play with artificial turf, goal posts, and lighting for night-time play. Each child will get protective gear to prevent injury and team jerseys/shorts to allow competitive play. Coaches will get cones and other equipment to help the kids drill and improve their soccer skills.
Every 4 years, the same teams--mostly from developed and economically thriving countries--are the contenders to wind the World Cup. Wouldn't it be nice if an underdog team from a struggling country like Haiti, were able to compete. This project could be the start. At the very least, it promotes the health and well being of children in Jeremie, Haiti with a safe recreational environment.
