Soccer for Change: Langas Slum Youths
Vijana Tuungane Youth Group | GlobalGiving Fundraiser Report
The Story
In Langas, one of Eldoret's most crowded informal settlements, many young people grow up with few safe places to play, learn, or dream. With little to do and little money, idle hours too easily lead to drugs, crime, and early pregnancies. But give these same youths a ball and a team, and something shifts. They show up, they work together, and they begin to believe in themselves.
Who We Are
Vijana Tuungane ("Youth, Let's Unite") is a community youth group working to give young people in Langas purpose, belonging, and a path forward. We use soccer as the doorway.
What Soccer for Change Does
Weekly training and matches that keep youths active, safe, and together
Mentorship sessions on life skills, leadership, health, and staying in school
Community tournaments that bring neighbours together and build peace across groups
Pathways beyond the field, linking youths to skills training and opportunities, including agribusiness
Our Impact So Far
Youths reached: 50 directly and 60 Indirectly
Teams formed: 3
Matches and tournaments held: 7 tournaments
What We Need
We are raising donations to cover:
Need
Balls, jerseys, boots, and training gear
Pitch hire and maintenance
Coaches' and mentors' stipends
Tournaments and community events
Why It Matters
Every dollar contributed keeps one young person on the pitch and off the streets for a full season. Sport is cheap. Hopelessness is expensive. Your gift turns a dusty field in Langas into a place where futures are built.
Join Us
