Dear friends,

On behalf of Darfur Women Network, Inc, I would like to thank you for your support and your genersity. I also like to share with you the concept, training, and impact of our proicet on the beneficaries.

The DarfurWomen Network’s Executive Director, Mastora Bakhiet, designed the The Soap Making for Health & Income for Darfur Refugees’ project. The concept of this project works in combination with Grameen Bank’s philosophy and DWN’s own framework.

The Grameen Bank was founded by Nobel Peace Prize winner, Muhammad Yunus, in Bangladesh. The philosophy of Grameen Bank is to help the world’s poorest women with micronancing, training, motivation and connecting their determination and skills with the resources they need to reach their full potential.

The DarfurWomen Network’s framework is to form 10 soap production groups, each group being comprised of ve of the poorest families among the survivors of genocide in the Darfur refugee camp in Chad.

After completion of training, the DWN provides them with soap making ingredients and tools to start their operation. Instead of paying back the initial cost of the ingredients and tools received for the training, the women will pay it forward by inspiring, empowering and transforming other women in their community.

The DWN terms of conduction:

  • All groups will sell the soap for affordable prices, determine by the committee groups representatives, DWN’s representative, the Camp Coordinator, the President of the camp and theWomenAssociation’s representative.
  • The committee determines the amount that should be saved during the operations and where the committee will save that money.
  • The groups will help over 29,000 refugees have regular access to body and laundry soap.
  • Each soap making group will agree upon ve women to train, provide them with a job shadowing opportunity, andsoap production tools
  • By providing training and tools for the new production group, the previous group will become their mentors.

 IMPACTOFTHE SOAPMAKING PROJECT:

  • 50+  refugees become economically empowered.
  • 50 women become mentors in their communities.
  • 250+ family members will be fed and taken care of.
  • 29,000 will have access to regular hygiene materials.
