Thank you for your support of this life changing and life saving project. We are delighted to bring you this latest upate from Beatrice Wambai, Programme Officer Climate and Environment.
One smokeless stove installed in a household equates to a happy mother, happy children and a healthier cooking environment for the family. The smokeless stove programme delivers significant health, environmental, economic and social benefits to households and communities.
Catherine is a grand mother to 9 grand-children from Kahurura village of Kipkelion East in Londiani, on a recent follow up visit to see how Catherine is getting on with her new stove, she could not hide her smiles as she described the difference it makes. She says;
‘I am a very happy mother, before having the smokeless stove I used my 3 stone for cooking, my kitchen was always filled with smoke and my eyes were always crying and itchy any time I was cooking. Any time I thought of preparing a meal I thought of how I will be crying again. My 3 stone used a lot of firewood and I used to go the forest four times in a week. My kitchen was always dirty because firewood will be all over the place and the kitchen roof, and the walls were dirty out of the smoke. Since Brighter Communities made this smokeless stove my eyes are not itching, I no longer cry while cooking. This smokeless stove uses less firewood and this has saved me time to go to the market and sell my vegetables. My kitchen is clean since I just use 2-3 pieces of firewood for cooking and my roof and kitchen walls are clean now. Thank you so much Brighter Communities Worldwide for installing this smokeless stove in my house. Asante sana.’
Viola is a young mother of 2 from Jagoror village in Kipkelion West subcounty and she is all smiles after Brighter Communities Worldwide installed a smokeless stove in her house. Here is what she said;
‘Asante sana Brighter Communities for installing a smokeless stove for me. There is no smoke in my kitchen and I can cook while relaxed in my kitchen. My husband can now help me to cook because my kitchen is now very clean. This stove cooks faster compared to my clay stove that I was initially using. This stove is very economical because I used to buy 3 bundles of firewood a week but I only buy once and save the money to buy household needs like food and clothes for my children. Asante sana Brighter Communities Worldwide.’
