Skin Care for All: Dermatology Mission in Aysen

In the Aysen region, many elderly residents face prolonged waiting periods for dermatological care, often leading to unnecessary suffering from treatable skin conditions such as benign tumors and cysts. This project is dedicated to addressing this gap by providing free consultations and surgeries to 160 patients, improving their quality of life and overall health.

Through the collaboration of Desafío Levantemos Chile, medical societies, the Ministry of Health, and local health services, a team of 25 professionals has been working at the Hospital Regional de Coyhaique to deliver much-needed dermatological treatments. These efforts not only reduce waiting times but also provide immediate relief to individuals in need of surgical intervention for their skin conditions.

Significant progress has already been made thanks to the generous contributions of donors. The initiative has not only facilitated medical treatment but has also strengthened connections within the community. This collaboration ensures that more patients receive timely care while also creating a sustainable framework for improving access to specialized dermatological services in underserved areas.

Beyond the immediate impact, this project sets a precedent for expanding access to dermatological healthcare in remote regions. By addressing these conditions early, we are reducing long-term health risks and fostering a healthier, more resilient elderly population. Continued support will be crucial in ensuring that this mission reaches all those in need and serves as a model for future healthcare initiatives.
