During this reporting period, Saidika Organization continued implementing the Skills to Opportunity project, supporting young people with practical knowledge and guidance to help them navigate employment, entrepreneurship and emerging economic opportunities.
Our approach recognises that having potential is not always enough. Many young people need practical tools to present themselves professionally, understand their finances, identify opportunities and access guidance from people who can help them take the next step.
This period, our activities focused on CV writing and career readiness, financial literacy, green economy awareness, and mentorship.
CV Writing and Career Readiness
We supported young people to improve their CV writing and job application skills, helping them understand how to present their education, experience, volunteer work, skills and achievements in a clear and professional way.
The sessions encouraged participants to look beyond academic qualifications and recognise the value of transferable skills such as leadership, communication, teamwork, problem-solving and community involvement.
For young people entering or re-entering the job market, these practical skills can make the difference between having experience and being able to communicate that experience effectively to an employer or opportunity provider.
Financial Literacy for Economic Independence
Financial literacy formed another important part of the programme.
Participants engaged in practical discussions around budgeting, saving, responsible financial decisions and managing personal resources. We encouraged young people to think about how they can manage the resources they have today while planning for their longer-term financial goals.
For participants interested in entrepreneurship, financial literacy also provides an important foundation for understanding business costs, managing income and making informed decisions.
Exploring the Green Economy
The project also created space for young people to explore the green economy and emerging opportunities linked to sustainability and climate action.
We discussed how environmental challenges can also create opportunities for innovation, employment and entrepreneurship. Young people were encouraged to consider how sustainable solutions can respond to real community needs while creating economic value.
This is particularly relevant as young people look for new pathways into sectors that are changing rapidly and increasingly require both technical and sustainability-related skills.
Mentorship: Connecting Knowledge with Experience
Mentorship remained an important element of the project.
Through mentorship conversations, young people were able to reflect on their goals, ask questions, discuss career and entrepreneurship challenges and receive encouragement as they consider their next steps.
We have found that skills development becomes more meaningful when young people have someone to help them connect what they have learned with their own circumstances and ambitions.
What We Are Learning
A key lesson from this period is that skills development should not happen in isolation.
A young person may learn how to write a strong CV, but still need mentorship to identify suitable opportunities. Another may understand budgeting but need entrepreneurship support to apply those skills in a business. Someone interested in the green economy may need guidance to identify where their skills fit within emerging opportunities.
This is why Skills to Opportunity combines employability, financial literacy, emerging economic opportunities and mentorship.
Our aim is not simply to train young people, but to help them build the confidence and practical tools required to move from learning to action.
Looking Ahead
In the coming reporting period, Saidika Organization will continue to:
We will also continue improving our monitoring so that future reports can capture not only participation, but the changes that follow—including employment applications, business development, new skills, mentorship outcomes and other opportunities accessed by participants.
